From UPSC Aspirant to Startup Founder: How Gadikota Siva Shankar Reddy Is Building Jollyjunction Bookings

For nearly a decade, Gadikota Siva Shankar Reddy followed a path defined by discipline in the pursuit of clearing the UPSC examination. But when that journey didn’t culminate in success, it forced a difficult but transformative pivot.

“I prepared for UPSC for a long time, but unfortunately, I didn’t clear the exam,” he says. What followed was less a choice and more a necessity. “I was exhausted with my attempts, and then I was forced to do something that could get me out of that zone.”

That moment marked the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey and the founding of Jollyjunction Bookings Private Limited.

Finding Opportunity in Everyday Observations

Unlike many founders who begin with a defined idea, Siva Shankar’s approach was rooted in observation. During his time in Delhi, he encountered a model of shared living that left a lasting impression.

“In Delhi, several areas where students like me used to rent rooms, each bedroom in an apartment was rented independently,” he recalls. “That means even if somebody vacated, that burden was not on others, and it really helped us living there with little income or source of money.”

What further stood out was the efficiency of the system this model brought: flexible, practical, and well-suited to transient student populations. Initially, this led him to explore opportunities in property management and service aggregation.

However, as he expanded his search into commercial spaces, he stumbled upon a more scalable opportunity. “While looking for that, we came across private theatres, and we found that there is no aggregator platform that can be scaled up properly.”

This insight became the foundation for Jollyjunction Bookings Private Limited, a platform designed to organize and aggregate fragmented commercial experiences into a single, accessible marketplace.

Building Without a Business Background

For Siva Shankar, the transition into entrepreneurship came without the safety net of prior experience.

“I never had any touch with business. My family also had no business background,” he says. The unfamiliarity of the space brought with it hesitation and self-doubt. “Because of that, I had many insecurities too. At one point, I felt, this is very difficult—can I do it or not?”

Despite this, he began taking concrete steps, reaching out to property owners, validating the concept, and building early partnerships.

“We went and talked to owners and convinced some of them to onboard,” he rejoices, noting that several more are in the pipeline. The early response gave him enough confidence to continue refining the model.

Expanding the Vision with LEAD

While the initial idea showed promise, scaling it required a broader perspective, something Siva Shankar credits to his experience in the LEAD program.

At first, the business was narrowly focused. “We were just thinking about private theatres, and that is a very small ticket size,” he explains. Through classroom discussions and exposure to entrepreneurial thinking, he began to reassess the model.

The result was a strategic expansion. “We need to add some other verticals to make the model more successful. So we added a vertical called Holiday for travellers and explorers.”

This new vertical focuses on aggregating travel and adventure experiences, partnering with providers offering trekking, camping, and group activities. The shift not only increases the platform’s revenue potential but also aligns with changing consumer behavior.

Confidence Through Community

Beyond strategy and execution, one of the most significant changes has been internal. Entering a completely new domain brought uncertainty, but the LEAD ecosystem helped address that.

“When I started, I had self-doubt. But when I came to LEAD, I got confidence that it’s not impossible,” he says.

The cohort environment, in particular, played a key role. “People are open in sharing their ideas and giving suggestions. Overall, it is helping.”

Building Forward, One Step at a Time

Siva Shankar is clear about where he stands today: the beginning of a long journey, with much still to learn.

“I am in the early stage, and I am still learning a lot many new things,” he says. His immediate focus is on building traction and turning the idea into measurable outcomes. “We will look to generate some traction before graduating from LEAD.

Beyond that, his ambitions are firmly set on scale. “Long-term goal will be to scale up to different cities.”

For someone who once spent years preparing for a structured career path, entrepreneurship has required a complete shift in mindset; from certainty to experimentation, from planning to execution.

And in that shift from preparation to action lies the essence of his journey.
