Avani Mekala: Growing NutriViva Through Science, Tradition, & Sustainable Solutions

Today, health and wellness information is everywhere: from diet trends and social media advice to extreme fitness and nutrition routines. Yet for many people, achieving sustainable health continues to feel confusing, inaccessible, and difficult to maintain.

For Avani Mekala, founder of NutriViva, this challenge became increasingly visible through years of working in nutrition, healthcare, and wellness.

A Clinical Nutritionist and Food Science Specialist, Avani holds a B.Sc. in Applied Nutrition & Public Health and an M.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition & Food Science. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in nutrition and functional health. Over the years, she has worked with organizations including HealthifyMe, Sanofi, and Apollo Hospitals, while also contributing as a product development expert for nutrition and wellness brands. She also serves as a consultant with Ramakrishna Mutt and collaborates with hospitals and wellness programs to support diverse patient communities.

Through her experience working with patients, wellness programs, and communities, Avani repeatedly noticed a common challenge: many individuals wanted to improve their health but did not know where to begin. While information was available, sustainable guidance often was not.

“Most people were looking for simple, realistic, and personalised guidance that could fit into their daily lives rather than restrictive diet plans,” she shares.

What stood out most during her clinical and wellness practice was that the challenge was not simply a lack of information. Many individuals struggled with poor eating habits, digestive concerns, inconsistent routines, low energy levels, and lifestyle-related health issues despite wanting to improve their health. What they often lacked was practical, trustworthy, and sustainable support.

This realization led to the creation of NutriViva — a holistic nutrition and wellness startup built on the belief that health is not just about calories or diet charts, but also about habits, emotional well-being, movement, sleep, digestion, stress management, mindful eating, and sustainable daily practices.

Where Tradition Meets Science

At the heart of NutriViva is an approach that combines evidence-based nutrition, Indian traditional wellness wisdom, and sustainable lifestyle practices to support long-term health outcomes.

The startup offers personalised nutrition and lifestyle consulting programs designed around concerns such as weight management, women’s health, PCOS and hormonal balance, menopause support, gut health, energy and fatigue management, lifestyle disorders, and family wellness.

Unlike conventional diet plans, NutriViva’s model focuses on sustainable habit-building and root-cause wellness. Programs are designed to integrate practical lifestyle elements, including meal planning, sleep guidance, stress management, hydration habits, mindful eating, movement, recovery, and eating behavior correction.

A key part of NutriViva’s work also lies in reviving practical Indian wellness wisdom through modern scientific understanding. Through educational content, workshops, and wellness awareness initiatives, the startup simplifies ideas such as seasonal eating, circadian eating patterns, traditional fermented foods, digestive health, mindful eating rituals, millets and local foods, and Ayurvedic food principles adapted to everyday life.

Alongside its consulting and education initiatives, NutriViva is also developing functional nutrition products focused on preventive and supportive wellness, including kids’ health mixes, women’s wellness formulations, menopause support nutrition, and traditional functional foods with modern nutritional optimisation.

What distinguishes NutriViva is its emphasis on continuous support. Rather than relying on one-time diet charts or temporary fixes, the startup focuses on regular follow-ups, accountability, progress tracking, personalised adjustments, and realistic implementation based on individual routines and lifestyle barriers.

Its philosophy remains simple: “Health is built through everyday habits, not extreme short-term solutions.”

Turning a Wellness Vision into a Venture

NutriViva currently operates through a hybrid wellness model that includes personalised nutrition and holistic wellness programs, subscription-based guidance with accountability and follow-ups, corporate wellness initiatives, wellness education for children and families, and holistic lifestyle support.

Its long-term vision is to build an integrated preventive healthcare ecosystem that combines nutrition, lifestyle medicine, education, and functional wellness products. Future plans include expanding functional nutrition products for women and children, preventive wellness solutions, and a digital platform for personalised guidance, tracking, and education.

As the model evolved, mentorship support through LEAD and Bower played an important role in shaping NutriViva’s growth journey, Avani shares, “Through the Bower incubation and mentorship support, we gained practical exposure to startup building, business strategy, and market positioning. The program helped us better understand business model structuring, identifying market gaps and refining our offerings, startup validation and scalability, building stronger partnerships and collaborations, online branding, digital marketing, customer engagement strategies, sales positioning and communication, as well as pitch deck preparation and presenting the startup effectively.”

According to Avani, one of the biggest learnings from the experience was understanding how to convert a wellness vision into a sustainable business while maintaining both impact and authenticity.

She also credits the mentorship ecosystem, founder interactions, seminars, networking opportunities, and startup exposure for helping bring greater clarity and structure to decision-making as NutriViva evolved.

Today, NutriViva is in its early growth stage, with active nutrition consultations, a growing digital wellness presence, educational content, and organic traction through community engagement and word-of-mouth referrals. The startup has also been featured in wellness and health publications and has participated in interviews and wellness talks on All India Radio.

Building Forward

As NutriViva continues to grow, Avani sees entrepreneurship as a continuous learning process; one strengthened by actively engaging with the right support systems and communities.

Reflecting on her own journey, she encourages current and future LEAD students to actively engage with every opportunity the program offers. From mentorship and founder interactions to networking sessions and seminars, she believes the value of the experience comes from participation.

According to Avani, LEAD offers practical exposure across business models, branding, finance, sales, sustainability, hiring, and long-term scalability, insights that can meaningfully accelerate both entrepreneurial thinking and startup growth when fully utilised.

She also highlights the support of the Bower ecosystem, describing it as approachable, involved, and deeply committed to helping startups grow.

“If utilised properly,” she says, “LEAD can significantly accelerate both entrepreneurial thinking and startup growth.”

As she looks ahead, Avani remains committed to making wellness more accessible, sustainable, and deeply rooted in everyday lifestyle practices; helping people move beyond short-term fixes and build healthier long-term habits.
